As soon as the lesson ends, a campus has been designed where students will not rush to leave and will want to spend more time at school. The fundamental design criterion is to achieve maximum harmony with the surrounding environment. The mass is aimed to offer new perspectives without obstructing the views of other buildings.
The gathering and dispersal areas shape the main arteries, and this area is intended to create opportunities for encounters in the university environment. Shared relaxation spaces have been envisioned to minimize the hierarchy between faculty and students. Accordingly, the offices are designed not as separate blocks, but in close proximity to the classrooms.
With a rational approach that invites education, recreation, and gathering, spaces suitable for both working and resting have been foreseen. The design emphasizes dynamic and fluid mass along with rational lines. The fundamental design decisions of the project have been made in a way that respects the surrounding fabric, based on pedestrian circulation axes and protected trees.
The designed structure stands respectfully alongside historical buildings, taking inspiration from their scale in terms of height, location, and mass movements. Currently, the reinforced concrete structure is connected to the Karakolhane building by a bridge, which adversely affects the façade of the stone building. In the search to lighten the bridge and improve its relationship with the building, it has been decided that the steel platform will be connected to the historical structure with a completely transparent glass canopy. Allowing users to walk or rest between the old and new buildings will enable them to see the old-new concept up close.
In the design, which establishes a respectful relationship with historical buildings without overshadowing them, rational and sensible solutions fundamental to the educational structure have been developed. As part of this, every function that changes inside has been reflected on the façade to incorporate the concepts of honesty and transparency into the project. A central and holistic approach has been adopted in the main spaces that allow for gathering and dispersal.
